Monaco, 19 March 2026 – The organisers of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, taking place from 4 to 12 April 2026 on the prestigious courts of the Monte-Carlo Country Club, have announced the allocation of the first two wild cards for the singles main draw of this 119th edition: Stan Wawrinka and Matteo Berrettini.
Stan Wawrinka: “Stan the Man”, a lasting legacy in Monte-Carlo
Winner of the tournament in 2014 following a memorable final against compatriot Roger Federer (4–6, 7–6, 6–2), Stan Wawrinka shares a special bond with the Monaco crowd.
A three-time Grand Slam champion and former World No. 3, he also won the Davis Cup in 2014 and an Olympic gold medal in doubles.
The Vaud native, who will turn 41 at the end of March, is currently playing his final season on tour, having announced he will retire at the end of 2026. His presence in Monte-Carlo therefore forms part of a particularly symbolic farewell tour.
Matteo Berrettini: a promising comeback
A former finalist at Wimbledon Championships (2021) and a previous Top 10 player, Matteo Berrettini is aiming to return to his best level after several injury-disrupted seasons. His best result in Monte-Carlo remains a Round of 16 finish, notably achieved in 2023. At the 2025 edition, he stood out with one of the finest wins of his career, defeating World No. 2 Alexander Zverev in the second round.
Back on the tour since February, Matteo Berrettini is determined to regain his top form. Known for the power and intensity of his game, the Italian can also rely on the strong support of transalpine fans, always well represented in the Principality.
“We are delighted to welcome these two outstanding players. Stan is an integral part of the tournament’s history, and his presence during his final season will undoubtedly be emotional. Matteo, meanwhile, represents a dynamic and exciting generation. Through these wild cards, we aim to offer the public iconic players capable of creating memorable moments from the very first rounds,” said David Massey, Tournament Director.
Two additional wild cards for the singles main draw will be announced in the coming days, along with four wild cards for the qualifying draw and three wild cards for the doubles draw.
