Alcaraz withdraws from Monte-Carlo

09.04.2024

Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday announced his withdrawal from the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters due to a right arm injury.

“I have been working in Monte-Carlo and trying to recover until the last minute from an injured pronator teres in my right arm, but it was not possible and I cannot play!” Alcaraz wrote on social media. “I was really looking forward to playing… See you next year! @ROLEXMCMASTERS @atptour”

The Spaniard found his form during the North American hard-court swing, successfully defending his title at the BNP Paribas Open before falling to in-form 2017 Nitto ATP Finals champion Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals of the Miami Open presented by Itau.

Alcaraz, the No. 3 player in the PIF ATP Rankings who owns a 15-4 record for the season, appeared at practice in Monte-Carlo with taping on his right forearm. Italian Lorenzo Sonego will take the 20-year-old’s place in the draw as a lucky loser and face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round.
