Nys/Roger-Vasselin record opening doubles win in Monte-Carlo

Monegasque star Hugo Nys and Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin earned an opening comeback victory against Jamie Murray and Rajeev Ram at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters on Tuesday.

Nys and Roger-Vasselin arrived in The Principality off the back of a final run in Marrakech and were impressive in the closing stages against Murray and Ram to earn a 6-7(3), 7-5, 10-5 win in two hours and four minutes.

Alex de Minaur and Jan-Lennard Struff continued their progress through the doubles draw when they overcame Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.

The Australian-German pair is teaming for the first time at the clay-court event and they were clinical against Gonzalez and Molteni, converting both break points according to Infosys ATP Stats to advance to the quarter-finals after 84 minutes.

There was victory for Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul. The Frenchman beat Robert Galloway and Jackson Withrow 6-4, 6-2 to set a second-round meeting with top seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic.

Brits Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski also earned a first-round win, overcoming Matthew Ebden and John Peers 7-6(5), 6-3. Salisbury and Skupski. Sailsbury and Skupski, who reached the final in Doha earlier this season, will next play second seeds Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten.
