Qualifying: Blockx Reaches Main Draw; Curtain Falls On Goffin

05.04.2026

Last year’s Next Gen ATP Finals runner-up Alexander Blockx is set to make his ATP Masters 1000 main-draw debut after advancing through the final round of qualifying Sunday.

The 20-year-old Belgian survived an 18-point opening-set tie-break to defeat veteran Bosnian Damir Dzumhur 7-6(8), 6-2. Blockx, who fell to Learner Tien in the Jeddah title match in December, competed in Indian Wells and Miami last month but failed to advance out of qualifying.

Joining Blockx in the main draw is Frenchman Alexandre Muller, who needed two hours and 33 minutes to hold off former Top 30 Italian Matteo Arnaldi 1-6, 7-6(4), 6-4.

American Emilio Nava will make his Monte-Carlo debut after ending Belgian David Goffin’s final appearance in the Principality 6-3, 6-7(6), 7-6(2).

Three South Americans won through to the main draw: Chilean Cristian Garin and Argentines Juan Manuel Cerundolo and Francisco Comesana, who took out qualifying top seed Ethan Quinn 7-5, 6-2.

Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko defeated veteran Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut 7-6(3), 7-6(4) to also reach the main draw.
