Granollers and Zeballos are coming off back-to-back semi-finals in Indian Wells and Miami, but are still searching for their first title of 2026 after lifting five trophies last season, including Roland Garros and the US Open.
Sixth seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz overcame Robert Cash and JJ Tracy 6-3, 7-5 to reach the second round.
Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard, who won their first ATP Masters 1000 title as a team in Indian Wells last month, defeated Pavlos Tsitsipas and Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2, 6-4 in their opener.
In other first-round matches, Andre Goransson and Evan King beat Flavio Cobolli and Luciano Darderi 6-4, 6-4, while Austin Krajicek and Nikola Mektic edged Yuki Bhambri and Michael Venus 1-6, 6-3, 10-7.
Christian Harrison and Neal Skupski advanced to the quarter-finals after receiving a walkover from Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik, who withdrew due to a toe injury.
