Vacherot vs. Musetti Highlights Wednesday’s Play

07.04.2026

Expect Court Rainier III to be rocking Wednesday when hometown hero Valentin Vacherot faces a first-time meeting with World No. 5 Italian Lorenzo Musetti, who last year reached his first ATP Masters 1000 final here in Monaco.

Vacherot won’t hesitate to bring his fans into the match after seeing the impact they had in his first-round win over Juan Manuel Cerundolo. Down a set and a break and lacking any momentum, the 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters champion made a very deliberate decision to bring fans into the match.

On three successive points he raised his arms above his head, motioning them to cheer louder. It worked a treat. The World No. 23 won the next 11 games to break open the match, learning an invaluable lesson in the process.

But loyalties on Court Rainier III will be split. Musetti enthralled Italian fans last year when he defeated Matteo Berrettini, three-time champion Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alex de Minaur before pushing Carlos Alcaraz to three sets in the final.

In the first match of the day Wednesday, seventh seed Daniil Medvedev will take a 3-0 career edge into battle against Berrettini, who played just four games Tuesday before Roberto Bautista Agut retired.

After slipping to World No. 18 last year, 2021 US Open champion Medvedev is back in the Top 10 and playing some of his best tennis. He already has 19 wins on the season, two titles in Brisbane and Dubai, and is third in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin.

Like Medvedev, third seed Alexander Zverev has also had a hot start to 2026, but he faces a tricky opener against Chilean Cristian Garin, who has won two of their three career meetings, all of which have come on clay.

Sixth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is 15-6 on the season with a title in Montpellier, faces Croatian veteran Marin Cilic. The pair has split six career meetings, but the Canadian has won the past three, including two last season.

Andrey Rublev, Joao Fonseca, Casper Ruud and Flavio Cobolli are also in action Wednesday.
