Press Conference – Milan
First European Tournament of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000
Milan, 20th October 2016. It was during the press conference organised in Milan, at the head office of Sergio Tacchini, the reputed Italian sportswear label and official partner, that the Tournament Director, Zeljko Franulovic, presented the upcoming Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.
Organised by the SMETT (Société Monégasque pour l’Exploitation du Tournoi de Tennis), from 13th to 21st April 2019, on the famous clay courts of the Monte-Carlo Country Club, the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters is the first European tournament of the prestigious ATP World Tour Masters 1000 category. Along with the Formula 1 Grand Prix, this tournament is one of most emblematic sports events of the Principality, and for over a century has marked the start of the Spring season of sports and cultural events on the Riviera.
We remind you that last year, the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, blessed by exceptional weather conditions, crowned an exceptional champion. Winning in two sets, 6/3, 6/2, in an unprecedented final which opposed him to the Japanese player Kei Nishikori, Rafael Nadal took his 11th title at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, further adding to his legend on clay. Never has a player won the same tournament so many times.
“With this year’s presence of the best world players, I wish to thank them, once again, for their loyalty towards our tournament. Each day, they gave exceptional performances for the great pleasure of our 136,671 spectators, of which 33% were Italian. The tournament was sold out from Tuesday through to Sunday on all five competition courts”, stated Zeljko Franulovic.
The Tournament Director also mentioned that the ticket sales website for the 2019 edition is open and that the public is already showing great enthusiasm, including many Italian tennis clubs. His advice was to reserve seats on the official website as quickly as possible to take advantage of the best seats still available.
The 113th edition, which will start on Friday 12th April with the Main Draw, is already looking highly promising. Several events are on the programme, such as the Kids’ Day on Sunday 14th April 2019, which attracted over 1,500 children in 2018, and the traditional Grande Nuit du Tennis on Friday 19th April.
Don’t miss next year’s event from 13 to 21 April 2019.
