Press Conference – Milan
Monaco, the land of international tennis
Milan, 20 October 2016. During the press conference organised in Milan, at the Sergio Tacchini head office, the Tournament Director, Zeljko Franulovic, revealed the major moments of the next Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.
Organised by the SMETT (Societe Monegasque pour l’Exploitation du Tournoi de Tennis), from 15th to 23rd April 2017, on the famous clay courts of the Monte-Carlo Country Club, the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters is the first European tournament of the prestigious ATP World Tour Masters 1000 category. Along with the Formula 1 Grand Prix, the tournament is one of most emblematic sports events of the Principality, and for over a century has marked the start of the Spring season of sports and cultural events on the Riviera.
After having revealed the new logo and new graphic charter that illustrate the close ties between the tournament and its title sponsor Rolex, Zeljko Franulovic stated that the 2016 tournament, which celebrated its 110th edition, was exceptionally successful, culminating with the final between the Spaniard Rafael Nadal and the French player Gaël Monfils, who competed in an extremely intense match (2h16). In his 100th final, his 10th at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, Rafael Nadal won his ninth title in Monaco.
“With 8 out of the 10 best players in the world present at our event this year, once again I would like to thank all players for their loyalty and commitment to our Tournament, which every day offered superb matches to the great delight of the 135.652 spectators, of which 35.000 were Italian. The Court Rainier III was sold out from the Tuesday to Sunday and the Court des Princes was equally full from the Tuesday onwards”, stated Zeljko Franulovic. The Tournament Director also mentioned that the online ticket sales for the 2017 edition has been open since 3rd October 2016 for “Privilege Sales” and for the general public since 17th October. Available on the official website (www.montecarlorolexmasters.mc), the site offers new features, such as a 3D model of Court Rainier III and Court des Princes for spectators to have a better visualisation of the seats they wish to reserve.
The 111th edition looks just as promising, with numerous activities such as the Children’s Day scheduled for Sunday 16th April 2017, which, in 2016, attracted over 1700 children, and the Launch Party, organised by Madame Mélanie de Massy on Saturday 15th April at Zelo’s, with the presence of the players, without forgetting the traditional Grande Nuit du Tennis on Friday 21st April.
Rendezvous from 15th to 23rd April 2017 on the legendary courts of the Monte-Carlo Country Club. Please note that the Main Draw will take place on Friday 14th April at 6.30 pm (and not on the Saturday) in the Exotic Garden of Monaco.
