Seppi, Cecchinato Qualify For Main Draw

Andreas Seppi will compete in the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters main draw for the 12th time after beating Spaniard Marcel Granollers 6-3, 6-3 in 72 minutes in the final round of qualifying on Sunday. Seppi has been rewarded with a first-round match against Kyle Edmund, the Grand Prix Hassan II finalist (l. to Andujar).

Another Italian, who qualified for the main draw, is Marco Cecchinato, who knocked out Spain’s World No. 67 Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-4, 6-2 in 72 minutes and now plays Damir Dzumhur in the main draw.

Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic defeated Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine 6-4, 6-4 and now sets his sights on countryman Novak Djokovic, the 2013 and 2015 champion. Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas overcame Mirza Basic 6-1, 6-4 and will play Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the first round. Basic was then drawn out as a lucky loser and will meet Aljaz Bedene, with the winner meeting 10-time champion Rafael Nadal.

Elsewhere, Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Jeremy Chardy also qualified. Herbert, who beat Andrej Martin 6-3, 6-3, now challenges Paolo Lorenzi, while Chardy beat Herbert’s doubles partner and countryman, Nicolas Mahut, 6-4, 6-1. Chardy faces Richard Gasquet in the first round.
