Milan Conference
Milan, 23 October 2014
On the occasion of the Press Conference held in Milan, in the Sergio Tacchini Milan showroom, the Italian clothing brand that is a partner to the tournament, the tournament director, Zeljko Franulovic, revealed the main events during the next Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters and presented the tournament partners, including the prestigious Swiss watch brand, Rolex.
Organised by the SMETT (Société Monégasque pour l’Exploitation du Tournoi de Tennis), the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, which will take place from 11 to 19 April 2015 in the prestigious setting of the Monte-Carlo Country Club, is the sporting event that opens the European season of the major tournaments on the world circuit, and known throughout the world on a same par as the Formula 1 Monaco race. This conference was the opportunity to thank the host of the day, Sergio Tacchini, who as technical sponsor, clothes the ball persons and tournament staff with a range of colourful outfits, in the traditional red and blue of the brand.
Zeljko Franulovic remarked that “in 2014, as each year, the public was very present and we reached the record number of 131,000 spectators (of which over 40,000 were Italian, whom we would like to thank by holding our first press conference here in Italy). For the first time, the tournament also reached maximum capacity with 14,600 spectators throughout the site, from Tuesday to Thursday, with play taking place on all courts”.
“The Main Draw, with the participation of the six best world players on the ATP ranking, included the return of the Swiss Roger Federer, after two years of absence. Exceptionally, the 100% Swiss final was a first in an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 and a Swiss player won the tournament for the very first time in Monaco. Stan Wawrinka made his name in the history of the tournament by beating his idol and friend Roger Federer. We had the privilege of watching a very high level final between two great players who, despite their rivalry, had no problem training together before the match”.
“The 108th edition of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters will perpetuate its tradition in organizing a series of special events, such as the Grande Nuit de Tennis and the Players’ Evening, which have become symbols of the tournament now known throughout the world. Moreover, thanks to the initiative of Marin Cilic, a Monaco resident and recent winner of the Us Open, the tournament will be organizing a humanitarian exhibition for the first time, whose profits will be donated to two Monaco charities”.
Rendez-vous at the Monte-Carlo Country Club from 11 to 19 April 2015 for the 108th edition of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.
